Virtualization in Medicine

Advanced virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) capabilities will be used to improve training and simulation as well as treatment across all departments within Sheba Medical Center's acute and rehabilitation hospitals. Among other use cases, VR has shown to be effective in treating pain, anxiety, and depression. Children can especially benefit from VR that provides a distraction during procedures that may otherwise require sedation, such as MRI imaging. Sheba Medical Center intends to be the first hospital to fully integrate VR into various therapies, including pain relief for various types of patients, including oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy, physical therapy, cognitive therapy, psychiatry, and more.
